Local Compliance

Labor Standards Act

In Taiwan, the major employment legislation is the Labor Standards Act (LSA).  Foreigners employed here are also protected by the LSA, no matter where the contract is signed or where the employer is.

Other Regulations

There are also other legal regulations governing different aspects of employment, e.g. recruitment, workplace safety and compensation, sexual harassment prevention. Leave entitlement and arrangements should also be updated regularly according to government announcements and employment duration.

Social Security and Insurance

There are a number of social security and insurance schemes that an employer must subscribe for an employee since as early as the first day of employment. Employers must handle monthly contributions to these schemes separately and properly before payroll days.

Tax Withholding

Tax withholding may also be required if the salary exceeds a statutory amount.
